Academic Urology Physicians Helping Make Local Hospitals "High Performing in Urology"

Academic Urology physicians are on staff at a number of local hospitals ranked as “High Performing in Urology” by US News & World Report.

The online news magazine, that has published its annual list of the nation’s best hospitals for 23 years, identifies top hospitals by specialty services as well as overall quality. Of the Delaware Valley hospitals deemed “High Performing in Urology,” Academic Urology physicians are on the medical staffs of four: Bryn Mawr Hospital, Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Lankenau Medical Center, and Paoli Hospital. In the case of Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Academic Urology physicians make up the hospital’s entire Department of Urology.

Only those hospitals in the top 25 percent nationally were eligible to receive a “High Performing” designation, based on a number of factors, including volumes, safety, patient survival, nursing services, and overall reputation. “Academic Urology’s physicians work very hard to remain on the leading edge of urologic practice, and we are dedicated to providing the highest quality urologic care possible,” said David J. Ellis, MD, president of Academic Urology. “At the hospitals where we treat patients, we have the privilege to work with a great team of nurses and other professionals who help us care for our patients. It is gratifying to be recognized for this work by US News.”

The Academic Urology physicians who treat patients at the four hospitals include: Donald Andersen, MD (a US News “Top Doctor”); Leigh Bergmann, MD (a US News “Top Doctor”); Kenneth Collins, MD; Frank D’Elia, MD; David Ellis, MD; Kenneth Fitzpatrick, MD; Robert Gary, MD; Larry Goldstein, MD; Brett Lebed, MD; David McGinnis, MD (a US News “Top Doctor”); William Merriam, MD; Carlo Nicolis, MD; Matt Soroush, MD; James Squadrito, MD; Ilya Volfson, MD; Stephen Walker, MD (a US News “Top Doctor”); Ilene Wong, MD; and Ilia Zeltser, MD (a US News “Top Doctor”).
