Academic Urology Prostate Center Adds Nurse Navigator

Academic Urology has expanded its service to men being treated for prostate cancer by adding a Nurse Navigator to the staff of The Prostate Center.

Elizabeth Franklin, RN, BSN, CCP, joined The Prostate Center staff in June.

“As a Nurse Navigator, my job is to work closely with both men being treated at the Center and their physicians to make sure patients fully understand the treatment process and don’t experience any impediments in their care,” Ms. Franklin explains. “A diagnosis of prostate cancer is stressful enough. A Nurse Navigator can help make the experience less stressful for the patient and his family.”

Ms. Franklin brings twenty years of experience in urology and urologic cancers, and she is certified as a High-Risk Chronic Care Professional. Her support of men with prostate cancer begins at diagnosis, through treatment, and follow up care. “Each patient is unique, and my work allows me to identify specific patient needs, identify barriers, and provide emotional support throughout the entire process.” Specific services can include connecting patients to additional information about prostate cancer, scheduling appointments for imaging or testing, or facilitating referrals to other healthcare providers.

Nurse Navigator services at the Prostate Center are provided at no cost to the patient.
